Vacation Day 1

Man, that was a horrible drive coming into Austin. Everything was great just up to that. It's not good when it's 3pm and it?s dark as night from the clouds, and you can see a light grey belt at the head of a new, darker cluster of clouds passing the road ahead of you a few miles. We had to slow to 20mph just to see the tail lights of the car ahead of me. More than twice, I saw lightning hit ground.

We went to O'Daku Sushi at the suggestion of one of my friends. Then we went to Fry's, where I was amazed at the sheer volume of tech toys they had, I was extremely dissapointed at the shabby inventory organization and the prices (this being austin, I guess I'm not surprised that everything is full price here).

The hotel that Mel got off of priceline hotels was by far the best hotel we've ever paid money for. Priceline Hotels lets you specify the 'star' of the room you want, the region of the city, and the price, and you have to take what it gives you. Well, she made this reservation as an anniversiary present and she got Candlewood Suites, just south of *major* construction of the 290/I35 interchange. I had never heard of Candlewood Suites so I just assumed that it was a cheap mom n' pop. It turned out to be a *really* decent hotel with a full kitchen and etc. etc. $35/night. Reason so cheap? Can?t really get to it very easily, and you have to drive at least a mile south before you can turn around and go north on 35 due to construction. Meh, s'alright.

We went to check out 6th street at around 10:30. Two things: 1) it's not the Mardi Gras I was expecting 2) that?s because 10:30 is TOO FRICKIN EARLY HERE!!! We were tired out by 12:30, and could see everything kinda pick up. Good info for next time... oh yes, there will be a next time :)
