On video games

I used to be a game nut, still am to a point. I thought that I'd get back into the current console game arena with a couple of new titles. I rented Enter the Matrix and Midnight Club II. I had ran into a playable demo station of MCII while I was a Fry's in Dallas and thought it was really cool that you could cruise downtown LA. I have no idea how accurate it is.

The thing that really turned me off about MCII was the stupid f*cking trash talking. It's complete white rice boy bullshit. "Yo homie, dis rahd is tight, yo." It's cute, but it never stops. I ended up muting it.

Enter the Matrix was much better, but I'd say it's more of an interactive movie than a game. Get through the first 15 minutes of nicely done, live action (with the real actors) video and you start out raiding the post office for the package that tells everyone in Zion that the machines are digging (see Matrix: Reloaded). It's fun but the levels are way too small and you find yourself waiting for the next level to load. This is probably indicative of the game being too much, graphically, to load more than 10 minutes of level time. This gets annoying when it takes almost a full minute for a level to load. In addition, the freaky camera angles and gameplay make it difficult to target people who are shooting at your or your allies (the latter is the #1 reason you fail a level, #2 is falling to your death because your character decided to walk sideways on a wall and flip off into a chasm. Way to go!)

I'm taking them back soon; hopefully alcohol makes it more fun...

Anyways, enough ranting. Just thought I'd share :-).
